[Moving to Okinawa] From Ishigaki Island to the main island. Discovering the best "sea-thing" and my passion for the sea after turning 60.

Did you see the sky in Okinawa today? It was such an exciting day that, if only I had my wetsuit with me, I'd want to jump into the ocean right away!

Actually, I moved from Ishigaki Island to Okinawa Main Island three years ago, and when I did, I followed my own "proper way of moving out"... "What you gain in that land, you must return to that land." Following that motto, I ended up selling my beloved wetsuit set to a second-hand shop in Ishigaki Island for next to nothing (lol). As a result, I'm in the rather amusing situation of not having a suit on this perfect day at the beach.

Nine years of island hopping, and then back to the mainland.

Looking back, I've lived in Osaka, Hiroshima, Kanagawa, Tokyo, and my hometown of Fukuoka. From there, I flew to Ishigaki Island and spent five years there. I worked as a full-time employee at three different companies—not a pilgrimage to three shrines, but working at three. A lot has happened, but if even one thing had turned out differently back then, I might still be on Ishigaki Island today.

But what occupied my mind at the time was an irresistible urge to **"I want to do Uber Eats!"** As if guided by fate, I moved to the main island, and until last year, I worked as a full-time driver, driving all over the roads of this island.

Ishigaki Island and the main island: Similar but different shades of blue.

What surprised me after moving to the main island was how the tranquility of the north was somehow similar to the atmosphere of Ishigaki Island. And the beauty of the sea. I used to think that "Ishigaki Island has the best sea," but on a sunny day...Gradient in Onna VillageThe joy I felt when I witnessed it firsthand was incredible!

Actually, I've been in contact with the sea far more often since moving to the main island than I did when I lived on Ishigaki Island. For me, the sea around Okinawa Main Island is the ultimate **"sea-thing"** spot for someone who truly wants to be in contact with the ocean.

*Seething: The ocean version of earthing (a health practice involving touching the earth). I just made up this word on the spot (lol).

Now that I'm over 60, the excitement is accelerating even more.

Since turning sixty, I've become more prone to nagging, to the point where people might say I'm acting like an old fool, but the excitement I feel when I'm in front of the sea remains just as strong as ever.

I'm steadily preparing for my first swim of 2026, while also searching for a replacement for the wetsuit I lost.

When will you all go for your first swim of the year? Even if you're from outside Okinawa, please come and "seeing" in the Okinawan sea not just once, but two or three times! I'm sure you'll find the ultimate healing awaiting you, both for your mind and body!
